„Palmenwald” – History und Health in a Home far away from Home
Hotel "Palmenwald" - one of the symbols of Freudenstadt - has been erected in 1895 as a casino by the renowned entrepreneur and social reformer Paul Lechner of Stuttgart. The romatic art nouveau and the healing climate of Freudenstadt make it a preferred holiday location. The far-sighted owner maximizes the building's potential - not only does it act as a casino and hotel, but also provides a guesthouse for noble maidens. During both world wars, the building was used as a military hospital. The unique drawings by soldiers on the walls of our subterrestrial hotel rooms are a protected cultural memorial of which there is no analogue in the region.
In the sixties of the 20th century, Palmenwald is renovated for balneotourism according to the modern standards of the time and gains awareness all over germany. However, a quarter of a century later, it's destiny changes completely. After the then-owner is bankrupt in the nineties, the hotel seems to fall asleep while awaiting a new future. Finally, it arrives in the person of Mr. Stefan Sharlopov - hotel owner and long-term investor in the wellness and spa tourism. The potential of the old-style building, its romantic history and architecture along with the magnificent features of nature in the region entice his enthusiasm. The ambition of the future owner comprises saving the valuable heritage by enhancing it with new technologies, according to the primary objective of his company.
A huge project for reconstruction, restoration and modernization of the hotel complex commences. The drafts take two years and execution another year. The challenge is taken by architect edom [hop] ltdgmail [hop] com (Marin Naydenov)
, an expert for monument protection, reconstruction and restoration who specialized on buildings in germany and a bulgarian team. A long list of construction companies, brilliant furniture designers and many established specialists care for the elaboration of every single detail. Together, they reach the final goal of achieving new resplendance for the aristocratism and romance of the past, characterized by quality, luxury and modern comfort.
What is special? The individuality of the new wellness hotel Palmenwald Schwarzwaldhof is composed of an unique interiour design, a rich collection of original paintings and it's luxurious surprise - the ROSE SPA, filled with the tender scent of bulgarian rose and the tempations of the orient.
A century after it's foundations, re-born into a new and cozy "home away from home", the wellness hotel Palmenwald Schwarzwaldhof, now a part of "Sharlopov Hotels", welcomes it'ts guests from all over the world.
The Wellnesshotel Palmenwald Schwarzwaldhof ****s has been decorated by the German-Buzgarian Chamber of Commerce with the Prize of German Economy 2009 for bulgarian investments in germany.
The "Jugendstil" is an artistic style which emerged in the mid-1890s in germany and lasted until the first decade of the 20th century. The german term "Jugendstil" originates from the Munich magazine "Die Jugend" which used to publish designer craft. Compared to the similar Art Nouveau from France, Belgium and the Vienna Secession, the "Jugendstil" utilizes simpler motives as well as figures and symbols of local folklore. It is thus more connected to english art.
Characterized by Jugendstil, two periods have segregated:
The early Jugendstil, before 1900, featuring mostly folklore motives and rooted in english and japanese Art Nouveau artists and patterns, and a later Jugendstil, more abstract and influenced by the Vienna oeuvre of belgian-born architect and designer Anri van de Velde.
The wellness hotel Palmenwald Schwarzwaldhof bears features from both periods of this architectural style. During the restoration, the project has been dedicated entirely to the Jugendstil stylistics.
