Less than 40 km away from Freudenstadt is “Europe’s summer capital” Baden-Baden, also popular as the “royal” SPA resort. Along with its healing water, the exceptionally mild and healthy climate, lovely green parks and various theatre, concert and opera performances, its impressive casino makes Baden-Baden a favorite destination for gambling fans. Strasbourg, 75 km away from Freudenstadt, known as the seat of the Council of Europe, the Court of Human Rights and the European Parliament, is particularly interesting with the curious mixture of German and French traditions and cultural heritage. Its central part Grande-Ile, surrounded by Rhine’s water canals, is part of UNESCO’s world heritage. A panoramic boat trip is a great opportunity to enjoy the city’s ancient architecture, the 16th and 17th-century houses of the picturesque neighborhood of Petite France and the gracious swimming swans. Strasbourg Cathedral is a masterpiece of the Gothic style. Also unique is its Renaissance astronomic clock, which show amuses visitors every day at 12:30. Numerous restaurants around the cathedral offer a short break over a glass of French wine and the French specialty of “Tarte flambée”.

Stuttgart, 75 km away from Freudenstadt, is a city with many faces – ranging from impressive castles, great squares, one of Europe’s longest shopping streets and pulsating night life to cool parks and healing mineral baths.  The State opera and Theatre, the world famous Stuttgart Ballet, Wilhelma – Europe’s biggest zoo and botanic garden, The MERCEDES-BENZ museum – a real achievement of modern architecture, as well as the PORSCHE museum are only some of the city’s attractions. The most visited amusement park in Germany with over 15 million visitors per year – Europa Park Rust – is an unforgettable experience for the whole family. It presents the idea of the united continent and is famous for being the world’s most international park. Europa Park offers 100 attractions, including Europe’s highest rollercoaster track Silver Star, Land of Chocolate, Land of Vikings and the Castle Park, filled in with amazing flower fragrances. Also located there is Balthazar Castle – one of Europe’s oldest fortresses, built in 1442. The children’s area in Europa Park offers numerous water attractions, dunes, white sand and original fishing equipment. Europa Park is located around 86 km away from Freudenstadt and can be reached with the free KONUS card which you will receive upon arrival at Palmenwald Hotel.

Bodenseе (Lake Constance) (100 km away from Freudenstadt), the third largest sweet water lake in Europe, is one of Germany’s popular tourist attractions. Its warm water is home of thousands of birds, including many rare species, and the flora around the lake is exceptionally varied – Mediterranean, alpine and even steppe plants. Mainau Flower Island with dazzling gardens and tropical butterflies enchants with its beauty. Don’t miss also Lindau Island  the biggest of the three German islands in Bodensee and the monastery island of Reichenau, which is part of the UNESCO world architectural and cultural heritage.
